LÚA GÁNDARA_Fiesta en el jardín con caracoles 11/06/2021
And it´s time for the garden party with snails. Let´s dance again. This is what Lúa Gándara proposes with this title, so suggestive and evocative for the times we live in, turning the METRO Gallery into her own particular dance floor. The vibrant stains of colour and the precise strokes and gestures of her paintings dance in a calculated rhythmic balance, forming a scenography that goes beyond the painting itself to become an invitation to optimism and humour in a garden inhabited by everything that, little by little, is born from the temperament of this young and multifaceted artist. Paintings, soundscapes or ingenious titles such as Amarillo sin gluten, Cuando los patos duermen pasan cosas, Raffaela Carrá en el armario, Buenos días cariño vi tu foto eres muy hermosa y muy dulce te amo, or the title of the exhibition itself, are the conceptual and poetic garnish of her proposal and invite the spectator to reflect and play.
My paintings dance. Between the very concrete title and the stains there are hidden things, because what is not seen is also important. When I want to say something, I speak. When I paint, I play very seriously. It´s a question of balance. When I paint, nothing is casual, but I´m interested in making it look like it is. I like weight in painting, but also movement. Colour shows me the way. It has more to do with knowing how to look and being very attentive. I care a lot about how exactly the strokes begin and end, it´s about gestures like when one speaks or moves through space. I am experimenting and developing the precise form, in a way that is both joyful and furious at the same time. It is a work that has a lot to do with improvisation and music, with the body.
