GEOMETRICS
LUÍS CARUNCHO_FERNANDO DAZA_NACHO ZUBELZU

Galería METRO presents GEOMÉTRICA, a review of the work of three artists who form part of this gallery, through a selection of abstract works constructed from the reason of geometry. From the designs of ancient cultures, through the works of the main promoters of geometric abstraction, such as Wassily in the 21st century, this genre continues to have important actors and followers. Its relevance is reflected in this exhibition, which brings together the work of one of the leading figures of constructivism in Spain, Luís Caruncho (A Coruña, 1929 - Madrid, 2016), the renowned Sevillian artist Fernando Daza (Seville, 1979) and the multifaceted Cantabrian creator Nacho Zubelzu (Reinosa, 1966).

Another common element in the work of these artists is the use of paper as the basis for their works. Their varied treatments provide an added attraction and are an example of the aesthetic possibilities of paper in creative processes. Luís Caruncho´s monochrome works are a sort of mathematics of planes and volumes, of light and shadow, reflecting balance and serenity. In Fernando Daza´s works, the use of coloured paper, torn by hand and glued in cascade on canvas, generates a volume that plays with the chromatic contrast of geometric shapes. Nacho Zubelzu´s works, which are born from the observation of the movements of large herds in the landscape, with a geometry of a more organic character, are also constructed with a multitude of white paper circles of different sizes, cut out by hand and arranged in sinuous layers that bring dynamism to his compositions.
